Do you have an air fryer? I must admit I was super skeptical at first, I definitely didn’t want another clunky appliance. However, It’s probably top three most used small appliance in our house. I think it’s the easy clean up with minimal mess for me. Preheating takes three minutes and then chicken is done in 10! I’ve also cooked meat from frozen in the fryer and it turns out fantastic. So quick, so easy! I’ve linked my air fryer here – it’s quick, efficient and so easy to clean and store! I also noticed this fryer is on sale –

The texture of the chicken comes out nice and crispy while staying juicy on the inside. With the addition of the sesame lime sauce and crunchy garlic green beans – this dish is top 10 for sure!

  • ready in under 30 minutes
  • juicy on the inside
  • crunchy fried texture on the outside
  • additional nutrients from the egg coating
  • the flavour is so delicious and suitable for kids to adult (no spice!)

Ingredients for Air Fryer Sesame Lime Chicken

Here are the details for the air fryer chicken, including the delicious sauce!

  • Air fryer: Here is the air fryer I use and absolutely adore.
  • Chicken breast: I suggest using boneless skinless chicken breast cut into 1 inch thick strips for easy and efficient cooking.
  • Cornstarch: I like to use cornstarch to give the chicken a more crispy texture on the outside. You can use flour as well – works the same, just not quite as crispy.
  • Sesame Seeds: I like to buy my sesame seeds in bulk! They store forever and are great options to toss on salads and noodle dishes.
  • Sesame Oil: In my opinion, the sesame oil makes the entire sauce! Here is a link to my preferred one – sesame oil
  • Soy sauce: I use Braggs Liquid Soy Seasoning – so flavourful and low sodium

Tips for the perfect Air Fryer Sesame Lime Chicken

  • Make sure you preheat your air fryer. 3 mins @ 400 degrees. Once preheated, coat with cooking spray.
  • If you prefer not to use cooking spray, you can also use these hand parchment paper liners that fit perfectly.
  • Try not to overcook the chicken, otherwise it will come tough and chewy.
  • Watch you don’t overcook the green beans – you want them to be softened but have a crunch still!

Air Fryer Sesame Lime Chicken

Description

Trying to add some variety to your weekday chicken meals? This sesame lime chicken is a great way to spice up basic chicken breast using your best friend the air fryer!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs cut into 1 inch thick strips
  • 1 cup corn starch
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 6 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • zest from one lime
  • juice from one lime
  • 34 cups green beans
  • 1 red pepper, thinly sliced
  • cooked rice (sushi, basmati or jasmine)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer, 3 minutes at 400 degrees. Once the fryer is preheated, spray with cooking oil.
  2. In a small bowl, beat the eggs. Put the cornstarch in a separate shallow bowl.
  3. Place the chicken in the eggs, toss to coat.
  4. Remove the chicken pieces from the eggs, letting the excess egg run off. Drop the chicken pieces into the cornstarch and toss to coat them well, shake off excess and arrange the chicken in the air fryer, single layer (you will likely have to cook the chicken in 2 batches).
  5. Air fry the chicken at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes, until the chicken is golden brown and cooked throughout. Turn the chicken pieces over halfway through cooking.
  6. While the chicken is cooking, prepare the beans. Add 1 tsp of olive oil to a pan over high heat. Once the oil starts jumping, add in the green beans. For the next 4-5 minutes, stay close continually stirring the beans to prevent burning. You want the beans slightly charred.
  7. Once majority of the green beans have char marks, add in 1/2 cup of water and turn heat to low and let the beans simmer. At this point add in salt and pepper along with a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Let cook for approximately 5-7 minutes, until beans soften but are still firm. Remove from heat.
  8. In the same pan you cooked the beans, make the sauce. Over medium heat, add in the soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, lime zest and lime juice. Bring to a simmer and reduce.
  9. Once sauce has thickened, add in the cooked chicken. Toss to coat.
  10. Build your bowl. Over a bed of rice, add the air fried sesame lime chicken, green beans, red peppers and garnish with green onions. Sprinkle with extra sesame seeds and serve!
